Cave of the Ausi

The Grotta degli Ausi is essentially a karst resurgence, fed by a series of sinkholes located on the overlying Colle Fornaro.
The entrance to the cave is easily accessible and features a charming waterfall, which flows—except during the summer months. Just a few meters inside, the cave splits into two branches, each with distinct characteristics.
The right branch is filled with deep pools of crystal-clear water, reaching up to a meter in height, during the dry summer months when there is no water flow. This section of the cave has a canyon-like structure, with numerous meanders, while its walls and ceiling are adorned with spectacular formations of countless shapes.
The left branch is drier, with little to no water flow, though the floor is still dotted with pools of varying depths. This section has long been a summer refuge for numerous bat species, which gather in large colonies clinging to the ceiling.
What makes this cave unique is that it develops horizontally, making it easily accessible and walkable for anyone—as long as they are properly equipped, of course!

☑️ one or more plastic bags to put wet clothes and shoes
☑️ a small bottle of water (1/2 liter)
